Eddy Dankers is one of those rare talents that you do not get to meet everyday. Born into a painters family, he elevated his paintwork to the artistic and innovative level that is today.
His passion for pigments (‘a grown out of control hobby’ as he calls it himself), combined with a passion for traditional and new painting techniques, Dankers Decor has set the trend in wall and floor finishings for the past decades. Dankers’ work is not just a local affair: Eddy and his team work on both royal patrimonial and national heritage projects as well as on private commissions for top architects in Belgium and abroad.
Flink was asked to create a new identity that fitted this current state of being. Before we started to create, we first sat down together with Eddy and his chosen team of advisors and talked about the past, present and future of the company.
The most difficult part of the identity was to find a way to express what Dankers Decor delivers. As ‘painting’ does not cover this at all, we created the baseline ‘we are artisan painters’. A line that combines both craftsmanship and art, based on the saying of Saint Francis of Assisi: “He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands, his head and his heart is an artist.”
To give the Dankers Decor name a more international appeal we abbreviated the name to DNKRS. The style is both modern and traditional, like his paintworks. We designed an embossing to add to the feeling of ‘exclusive seal of approval’ by Dankers. The black & white colours add to the refinement and keeps the housestyle neutral, yet impactful. Flink designed all communication tools, from website to stationery and workwear.
